Risk managers and operations teams were forced to read complex Certificates of Insurance (COIs), cross-reference dense contract requirements, and make judgment calls they weren't trained to make. illumend (formerly myCOI) built a powerful AI engine to solve this, but raw AI isn't enough—it needs a trusted interface.

Partnering with Left Field Labs, Art of Wednesdays designed a zero-learning-curve, conversational LLM that guides third-party partners seamlessly through document uploads. But conversational AI is a two-way street. The industry focuses heavily on how the user talks to the AI, but the actual value of an enterprise tool lies in how the AI talks back.

We didn't just design the conversational input logic; we architected exactly how Illumend digests massive compliance datasets and visualizes those results back to the user. A text-heavy response from an LLM is useless to a contractor who needs to verify coverage on a chaotic job site. The AI's output needed to be instantly scannable.

To solve this, we built the Lumie Design System—a robust, scalable library tailored specifically for dynamic data visualization. We engineered the rules for how the AI synthesizes its findings, triggering a slew of high-density tables, charts, and metric cards depending on the context of the user's query. We designed the logic that turns raw, complex compliance data into a clear visual hierarchy, allowing users to rapidly scan compliance tiers and pinpoint errors in seconds.
